Niko Xhufka’s beautiful photo-book from Albania in 1976 is a rarity. In an interview here* he explains he took them on leave from his job at Zeri I Popullit. Due to the heavy surveillance by the Albanian state his photographs usually had to be approved, but these were his own. Xhufka has since held exhibitions across Europe and as of 2013 is engaged on a project to photograph the castles of Albania. You can buy the wonderful ‘Rhythms of Albanian Life’ secondhand on Ebay or Amazon.
